Peter Dutton grills Anthony Albanese on renewable energy policy
Opposition leader Peter Dutton criticised the Albanese government for trying to turn off the old energy system before the new system is “ready”.
The leader of the opposition slammed Labor for their continued push for renewable energy, which he claims is expensive and disruptive to the grid.
“If you do that, not only will you have that disruption to supply, you will have an increase in prices,” Mr Dutton said during a press conference.
“We need to have a baseload of energy, which in 19 of 20 G20 countries, is nuclear – or is about to be nuclear.
“Like on the Voice, the Prime Minister says there is nothing to see here ... Australians have seen through that.
“It’s incumbent on the Prime Minister to start having an adult discussion in relation to what is one of the most important iss...

Renewable energy transition ‘should be properly investigated’
Nationals Senator Matt Canavan says the LNP has “tried constantly” in the last year to establish a senate inquiry into renewable energy.
Mr Canavan told Sky News host Chris Kenny that “we need to look at these things”.
“Because there’s a whole lot of impacts on our electricity system, on the safety of our grid.
“That should be properly investigated.
“But no surprise the Labor Party and the Greens have teamed up together to stop that investigation.”

Why is the West so desperate to compete with China's solar sector? | Transforming Business
China controls the majority of the global manufacturing process for solar energy – a stark contrast to its position 15 years ago, when Europe was the sector's unchallenged leader. The reason? A heavily subsidized industry and lots of government financing. As well as a sharp decline in costs for consumers. But Western nations decry an unfair market advantage. One Swiss solar panel maker is determined to stay competitive, by moving its manufacturing from Germany to the U.S. -- where energy prices are lower and they can tap into incentives offered under the Inflation Reduction Act. Do they stand a chance? And is it so bad if China dominates the market?

Are floating solar farms the future of clean energy? - BBC News
Over the past two years, energy prices have soared to record levels across Europe, leading to renewed efforts to harness renewable resources.
Portugal has turned its sights to solar power – and the country is now home to Europe’s largest floating solar farm.
Located on a reservoir in southern Portugal, the farm is the size of five football pitches and is made up of 12,000 photovoltaic panels.
It generates enough energy to power 15,000 homes in the local area.

This film is from Click – the BBC’s flagship technology programme.
